Monica Weller ARPS. Muriel Jakubait. Monica is well known for her photo-journalism style of photography, which is helped enormously by her genuine interest in people. Her work having been widely published. She has had her pictures exhibited in several London Salon and RPS International exhibitions. "This picture is of Muriel Jakubait, sister of Ruth Ellis, the last woman to be hanged for murder in the UK. Muriel launched an appeal against the 1955 verdict, which was heard in the presence of three judges at the Royal Courts of Justice. The judges reserved their judgement following the two-day hearing which ended on 17th September. I have been working with Muriel for nearly three years and took this photograph of her at her home in Surrey. In December 2003 the Appeal Court upheld the 1955 murder verdict. Afterwards Muriel read out a statement saying that she hoped the truth, about the murder that her sister was hanged for, would come out at the Appeal. She says it did not. "Now is the time for the truth to be told. The public has the right to know. The details are in my book, Ruth Ellis: My Sister's Secret Life, that I have written with my co-author Monica Weller." |
