Bike Racer.

Malcolm Firth

I was introduced to this web site by a good friend of mine, Andrea Ingram who has also been gently persuading me to try some black and white photography.
So here is my most recent try, a picture of a racing cyclist whose jersey, shorts and helmet were all black and white and so it seemed appropriate for it to become a black and white photograph. The reason for the name of the cycling club to which the rider belongs (Yasumitsu Schlapp) and the white hand imprint on the rider's shorts is that the birth of the club was inspired by my good friend Andrea meeting a Japanese racing cyclist called Yasumitsu and who always slapped his thigh before mounting his bike to race.
Photo details: camera Minolta Dimage A2, ISO 64, shutter speed 1/80sec,
aperture f5.6, focal length 44mm on a 28-200mm zoom. The photo was taken in colour then altered in Photoshop CS by using a Channel Mixer layer set to monochrome and with the red channel on 100%, plus a Photo Filter layer set to yellow with 50% density.
